In a Grade Book Column automatically created by the Assignment tool and released to Groups of Students (but no groups created yet), the instructor will not be able to enter the grades/feedback and see “not participating”.

To resolve this issue, assign the students into groups using the Group Tool or create a new column and the instructor can manually add grades and feedback.
